Escaping the Noise ~ Finding Peace

Listen. To what? Listen carefully. Do you hear all the noise?  It’s all around us and right up in our faces. Bombastic noise, shrill sounds, loud voices.  It can start to ring in our ears if we aren’t careful. It can overtake our own thoughts.  It can even drown out truth that we know in our heart, mind, and soul. Where can we find peace?

What is all that noise?  And how can we ever be free from it?

It’s the noise of this world.  It’s opinions of others, it’s expectations put on us, it’s politics and all the lies and manipulation that tend to go along with it, it’s people around us trying to be the Holy Spirit in our lives, and so much more.

Finding Peace in the Noise of this World

And what about the noise that resonates in our soul from the pain of trials and tribulations.  We all have experienced pain and suffering that seems to pound in our soul in decibels we can not ignore.

What in the world can we do about all the noise and all the voices that bombard us on a daily, hourly, and sometimes minute by minute basis?

Where can we possibly find peace and quiet rest for our heart, mind, and soul?

First, we need to unplug.

Unplug what, you might say?

Unplug from all the devices that are at our fingertips. The world is just a tap of the finger away.  Access to all the news, music, politics, movies, cable tv, social media, and the list goes on ~ right in our pocket.

Spend some time outside enjoying the beauty from our Creator God.  Stop and smell the roses, so to speak.

Listen to the birds.

Grow some herbs on your patio to use in all the yummy summer salads.

Find a wonderful book to read rather than clicking on that screen one more time.

Sit still and just be quiet.  Why is that so hard for us in our modern world of technology? We have lost the ability and even the art of enjoying the silence that we need to experience.  That silence has become almost uncomfortable to some.

But we need quiet.  We need time to enjoy the silence, to clear our minds of the noise so we can listen to what really matters.

Once we finally unplug and find some silence, we can truly start hearing from God.  It is then we will find margin in our lives ~ time we can spend in God’s word and in prayer, communicating with Him.

Finding Peace in your Time with God

Not just the read real fast, check in the box, “ok I did my Bible reading for the day” type of time spent with God.

Real, deep, soul changing, heart refreshing time with God. Time with God that changes us at the very core of who we are.

Time with God that heals the hurts we’ve experienced.  Time enough for Him to bind up our wounds when we’re brokenhearted.

Psalm 147:3   “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. ”

Time enough to worship God, to get to know Him, to focus on who He is.

Time with God to allow Him to minister to us and free our spirits from the pain in this world so we may bring glory to Him and proclaim His excellencies to those around us.

That’s really what this is all about, you know.

The life He has given us, including the pain and suffering, are all so that we draw closer to Him and find our peace in Him and in turn glorify Him in all that we do.

Romans 8:31 says “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

If He is for us, then He is also with us.

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. With us, in us, and interceding for us.  What?  Interceding for us?

Yes!  Did you know that our Savior, Jesus, is at the right hand of God interceding on your behalf?  Praying prayers for us that we don’t even know how to pray.

If you need peace and rest in your soul, there it is!  Jesus, praying to the Father for you, your family, your issues, your questions.

Romans 8:34-35, 37-39  “Christ Jesus is the one who died – more than that, who was raised – who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?”   ( 37)  “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  (38) For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, (39) nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I can’t think of anything in this world that can give me the peace and rest in my soul more than the knowledge of these truths in Romans 8.

Nothing, not even the noise of this world, can separate us from Christ, but we have to unplug from the world in order to get to know Christ.  We don’t just hear a sermon once or twice a week and truly know Him on a personal level.  Don’t get me wrong, that is important and we are called by God to gather with other believers on a regular basis, but our walk with Him must be nurtured in time spent with Him and His word, in a quiet place, unplugged from this world.

Jesus tells us in His word that in Him we will have peace.

John 16:33  “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Sweet friends, go unplug from the world and spend time with God, the God and Creator of the universe. Get to know Jesus on a personal level.  It is there where you will find true peace for your heart, mind, and soul.

  1. Amen and amen! Everywhere you look, most people walk around looking at the blasted screen on their phone! It’s dreadful! Peace and quiet from this wicked world and its distractions is something I crave more and more and more each day!

  2. YES! I wholeheartedly agree– getting still and quiet and just listening has been such a huge deal for me recently– I am longing like crazy to step away from all the noise! My soul is thirsty for it– actually I think everyone’s is but maybe they don’t realize it yet… Thanks for the gentle reminder. I’m so glad I found my way to your lovely site Shellie!

    1. Thank you for stopping by, Heather. I believe you are right in that we all need quiet but just don’t know how to find it in our world today. Have a blessed day and visit again soon.

      Blessings ~

  3. Thank you so much for sharing this post.
I’m learning to ‘unplug’ from the world to find rest in God’s presence.
Hearing from God requires that we separate ourselves unto Him. Otherwise, His voice gets lost in the noise.
Thank you once more for sharing.
    You are blessed.

    1. Thank you for stopping by to visit today. I too am learning to unplug from all that goes on around in order to be able to listen to God. It is how our spirit is renewed in Him.
      Have a blessed day.

  4. Peace is hard to find especially nowadays when the world seems to be louder than it used to be. But we need it to stay sane. We need to unplug to the noise of the world in order to plug in with the Voice of truth. 🙂

    Beautiful.

  5. When I’m at home I unplug first thing every morning. I get to the track where I walk and pray. It’s my time with God. I’ve done it for years now. I miss it if I’m traveling and can’t get there. It’s become my healthy habit for mind, body and soul.

    1. We definitely have to be intentional about our time with the Lord and about unplugging with all the technology around us. What a great way to start your day! Thanks for stoping by, Rachel.

      Blessings ~
